The core purpose for Hospitality Ministry is to fund and/or supervise mission work and evangelism toward Muslims in Canada so that they may know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour. To this end, we are excited to tell you about the lay missionary that the Ministry is partially sponsoring in 2024 and 2025.
Current Active Mission Work: Partially funding Lay Missionary to Muslims in the East Region in 2024 and 2025.
Due to the sensitivity of Muslim outreach and the fact that our supported lay missionary has been assaulted by Muslims and been the recipient of threats of violence by Muslims in the past for his proclamation of the Good News of Jesus Christ, we hope you can understand that what we can disclose about him and his work is very limited so as to not give away his name and location. Our desire is that his day-to-day evangelism will continue to be fruitful and that we will not endanger his work by revealing his identity on this website.
What we can tell you is that the lay missionary we support was born in a majority Muslim nation and explored the Islamic religion for some time and in great depth before his rejection of Islam-coinciding with his first reading of the Holy Bible-caused him to leave his native country and by God’s grace, after a number of years and much travel, eventually arrive in Canada. He was very effective in sharing the Gospel of Christ in the places God took him before his move to Canada. Upon his arrival in Canada he enrolled in one of our two seminaries. He continues to receive theological education while supporting himself with a part-time job. Currently he is a called lay missionary to one of our circuits in the East Region and his missionary work is under the supervision of the circuit counsellor.
What does our supported lay missionary’s outreach and evangelism look like? Well, it changes every day. God has blessed him with a desire to talk to other people and whether it be Canadians or newcomers who are Muslim, the lay missionary we support loves to talk to people and is very good and sharing the Gospel of Christ in day-to-day conversations. And so it is a blessing that he has a part-time job as this gives him lots of opportunities to have conversations with fellow employees. God has also opened the door for him to serve his neighbour in a way that allows him to come into contact with many Muslims and this gives him opportunities to share the Gospel with those who are open to the Good News.
We hope to give you more updates on his missionary work in the near future and perhaps also have him describe some of his work on this website.
Currently our finances do not allow us to fully fund this lay missionary’s work, but because we are Lutheran Church-Canada’s only listed service organization dedicated to reaching out to Muslims, the Board of Directors have taken a step of faith to pledge to maintain our current funding throughout 2025. To do this we need your financial support. Please consider generously giving to Philoxenia/Hospitality to support this work. To do so, please visit the “Make a Donation” page of the website.
